Welcome to the Charis Spiritual Director Training Program!
Spiritual direction is a ministry of contemplative presence and invitation that offers sacred space to individuals for an on-going process of self-discovery and a deepening relationship with God. This process of companioning invites persons to share their sacred stories, while offering a safe place to explore prayer practices, meditation, spiritual experiences and the growing desire for authenticity.
We wish to emphasize that spiritual direction is a calling, much like ordained ministry is a calling. Both laypersons and clergy find themselves drawn toward this area of service and the embodiment of contemplative spirituality.
This initiative which begin in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, has now moved into a relationship with The Texas Gathered Community of Spiritual Directors 501c3. This shift has benefitted Charis by opening new opportunities for collaborative growth and experiences with other programs across the Gulf Coast.
The three-year program combines the ancient Christian traditions of spiritual guidance with the unfolding invitation of discernment as one becomes a Spiritual Director. Our ecumenical program has trained more than 70 Spiritual Directors over the past 17 years.
Please explore our website for persons to contact about the many aspects of our Program.
