Welcome to the Charis Spiritual Director Training Program. As an initiative sponsored by the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, our three-year program combines the ancient Christian tradition of spiritual guidance with the Wesleyan spirituality that informs and inspires the United Methodist faith. Our ecumenical program has trained 38 Spiritual Directors in this practice over the past 6 years and we are currently in the first year of training for Class #3.
Spiritual direction is the process of accompanying people on their spiritual journeys and helps persons to tell their sacred stories. Spiritual direction invites a deeper relationship with The Holy and offers a safe place to explore prayer practices, meditation, spiritual experiences, and our growing desire for significance.
We wish to emphasize that spiritual direction is a calling, much like ordained ministry is a calling. Both laypersons and clergy find themselves drawn toward this area of service.
